Module indicating what will be
covered.
This competence level covers international and national environmental governance including institutions, policy and laws. The level consist of two modules:
(i) International environmental governance and related policies and laws and,
(ii) National environmental governance including institutions and related policies and laws.
At the international level, a total of 9 laws that govern environmental protection, conservation and management are elaborated. Next, the key environmental governance institutions are covered including: UN General Assembly, WMO, UNEP and its subsidiary United Nations Environment Assembly, UNFCCC, UNCBD and UNCCD.
At the national level, a cluster of 7 national polies and laws that govern environmental protection, conservation and management are covered. Next, the key national institutions that are established under these laws are covered. EPA-SL has been given special covering being the nationally mandated institution to protect the environment. In addition, other relevant ministries, agencies, and non-state actors are discussed.
Finally, two field visits are suggested to expose the trainees to international and national institutions involved in environmental governance. The first suggested visit is to a UN system e.g. UNDP who would provide a motivational talk. The second visit would be to the judiciary who would also provide a motivational talk

The Competence level is aimed at exposing the trainees to international and national environmental governance institutions, relevant policies and laws that govern the management of the environment. The level consist of two modules (i) international environmental governance and related policies and laws and (ii) national environmental governance including institutions and related policies and laws.
